Welcome to the President's Quality and Safety Page which will provide ongoing information regarding the emphasis our hospital places on patient safety and quality outcomes. Please return to this page periodically for an update on what Beloit Memorial Hospital is doing to improve our excellent outcomes and to ensure patient and employee safety.

The Hospitalist Advantage

Less than a decade ago, healthcare leaders wondered who hospitalists were. Today, there's no doubt that hospitalists are here to stay, providing value on many levels and driving hospital toward even greater patient-focused care. Over 50% of hospital's nationwide have now converted their inpatient care to hospitalists.

Although we have been very fortunate to have our Beloit Memorial Hospital physician staff provide excellent inpatient care over the years, as a team we are prepared to make this change for many reasons. Our physician team has been overwhelmingly supportive of this transition and believe it is a very positive move for our patients.

Beloit Memorial Hospital and our medical staff are preparing to transfer our inpatient medical care over to their partnership hospitalists. Starting in the next few months, you will meet many members of our new team.

Hospitalists are considered specialists, similar to a heart or cancer specialist. Especially since today's hospital patient is more acutely ill, often with multiple health issues, a physician who is specially trained to handle a patient's multiple hospital needs is a benefit.

Here are some advantages to having hospitalists at Beloit Memorial Hospital-

  • Patients and their families will find that hospitalists are more available for longer time periods for questions and concerns. And since they are located within the hospital, they are more easily available for reading test results, and meeting with discharge planners, specialized rehab and others to facilitate a patients experience.
  • Hospitalists will relieve primary care physicians of long hours on weekends or evenings. Thanks to hospitalists, primary care physicians will be able to focus their time on office patients and outpatient skills.
  • Research has shown that hospitalists reduce a patient's length of stay, treatment costs, and improve continuity of care.

  • Overall, we are looking forward to this progressive changeover in inpatient care. We know you will appreciate the timely, available, and specialized care that hospitalists provide.

    Sincerely,

    Gregory K. Britton
    President and CEO
